Introducing Peter Ness

Nov 20, 2019

You’ve maybe noticed an unfamiliar face in the office in the last few weeks. Peter Ness started working at Maple River Grain and Agronomy, LLC as a Grain Originator in early November.

I was raised on a farm west of Thompson, ND. Growing up on our farm, throwing bales, chores morning and night, and every sport possible in between was our way of life. However, I rarely missed an opportunity to help my uncles with springs work and harvest. Most of my summers were spent in the wash bay and setup shop of Uglem-Ness in Northwood. This was my first taste of ag business and the reason why I decided to pursue a career in the ag industry.

After high school I attended NDSU with intentions of playing football, but a nagging shoulder injury kept me sidelined. During my time in college, I interned for Centrol Ag Consulting as a crop scout and Thompson Farmers Coop Elevator as a grain and agronomy intern. I graduated in the Fall of 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics and accepted a sales agronomist position with Finley Farmers Elevator where I worked for the last 3 years. I had a great time in Finley making many lasting relationships while running the seed plant and spending time on area farms helping growers reach their production goals.

I had a blast working as an agronomist, but I always had an interest in grain merchandising stemming back to my marketing classes in college and my time spent at Thompson Farmers Elevator. My wife and I moved to Fargo to be closer to her job in the summer of 2018 and the opportunity arose this fall to try my hand at merchandising here at MRGA. I’m excited to learn from this awesome team and look forward to meeting the many new faces. So, please don’t hesitate to swing in and introduce yourself!
